As part of its RISE: Legacy Programme, Ballina 2023 presents Leave No Trace Certified Awareness Course on Saturday, September 16.
Leave No Trace Ireland Certified Awareness Course Information
Through outdoor classroom discussions, outdoor lectures and outdoor activities, this course will cover the seven Leave No Trace Ireland principles and discuss outdoor ethics in Ireland. It will give the participants tools and techniques for disseminating low-impact skills to others.
The course requires active participation throughout the day.
This course will encourage participants to learn and practice the seven Principles of Leave No Trace Ireland in an outdoor setting.
The core components of the Certified Leave No Trace Awareness course are:
Hear why we should ‘Leave No Trace’
Be exposed to the 7 Principles
Understand the personal responsibility and choice-based approach of Leave No Trace vs prescriptive approach of existing countryside codes
Understand that there are shades of grey to ‘making good choices’, it’s not just black and white
Find out that we have both the personal responsibility and capacity to choose
Find Leave No Trace resources online, on paper & in person
Below is a suggested ‘to bring’ list:
Comfortable outdoor gear including; rain jacket and trousers, a fleece or jumper, hat, gloves and strong footwear for use on wet ground. As it’s a walk and talk day, the distance might only be 5km. It will be mainly be on the flat. Be prepared for changing Irish weather!
A camera, pen and paper might be useful, if you have compact binoculars or bird/flower field guides they might come in handy too, but the best thing to bring would be a bit of curiosity.
Lunch: please bring your own packed lunch, we will aim to have a picnic style lunch outdoors.
