Fund of €15,000 available to community and voluntary groups to support new events for Ballina 2023

The Ballina 2023 Steering Group is now inviting applications from community and voluntary groups for Round 1 of the Ballina 2023 Community Fund (to fund events taking place up to the end of July 2023).

Small grants of up to €1,000 will be awarded to assist with the cost of new, small-scale events or initiatives to be developed as part of the programme to mark the town’s year of celebrations.

Chairman of Ballina 2023, Jarlath Munnelly said: “From the outset, the Ballina 2023 programme has sought to involve, empower and connect communities within the town. We hope that this fund will assist community and voluntary groups to mark this important year in ways that are unique and important to them, and that will contribute to RISE, the Ballina 2023 Legacy Programme.”

The community fund is supported by Mayo County Council, and preference will be given to applications that align with Ballina 2023’s key pillars and values – Arts & Culture, Business and Enterprise, Community & Inclusion, Sports, Climate Action/Environment/Sustainability and Youth.

Suggested themes for events include Ballina 2023’s aims to honour the past, celebrate the present and inspire hope for the future, Ballina’s 300th Anniversary, Lord Tyrawley or the #MyBallina campaign, where people share their own experiences and stories of Ballina. Examples of types of initiatives that could be funded include (but are not limited to) community street parties, sports days, exhibitions, workshops, talks and seminars, and live performances, but groups are invited to be imaginative and creative with their events.

All supported events will be promoted on the Ballina 2023 website and included in the overall programme of events.

The closing date for the first round of applications is Friday, March 24 at 5pm. Submissions will be accepted via the form below. Please read the application guidelines before submitting an application.

(A second call for applications will open in July.)
