For Ballina 2023, socially engaged artist Alice Dixon worked with young people from Involve Ballina Youth Project and Scoil Íosa on a public multicultural event rooted in community and celebration.
This exhibition is an outcome of that work. It is a place where diverse voices are represented, where participating children’s personalities come to the fore, where snapshots of their day-to-day to lives and experiences are captured and transmitted through a multitude of forms of expressions.
Well Sublic and Lakin, Any Craic? means “well boy/girl, any craic?” in Cant, a traditional language spoken by Irish Travellers.
The event celebrates both Traveller culture in Ballina, and the myriad of cultures and communities that call Ballina home and builds on This Giant Tent, a project developed in 2018 celebrating culture and identity.
Project Manager – Alice Dixon
Lead Artist – Mary Branley

This Giant Tent is funded by Ballina 2023, Bank of Ireland Begin Together Fund, Mayo North East SICAP Programme, the Museum of Country Life and Kid’s Own Publishing.
