Haunted House on the Hill Halloween Fundraiser, by Sean Lynch
The Sean Duffy Community Centre and Ardnaree Sarsfields GAA Club teamed up this Halloween to stage a joint fundraiser, designed to strike fear into the heart of all attendees!
Sean Lynch reports on how it went:
We are delighted to report that the Haunted House on the Hill (Halloween 2023) joint fundraiser was a huge success! The event was run over three nights over the Halloween bank holiday weekend, Friday 27th, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th October, from 7pm to 10pm daily.
As we were unsure of what to expect on the opening night we only allowed those who purchased tickets online to enter. Once we were up and running with positive feedback we spread the word that those wishing to attend could also pay at the door. Lengthy queues formed early on Saturday and Sunday evening that helped generate excitement outside along with the scares inside the building.
Also on the Sunday we ran a sensory hour (free of charge) and children’s hours (reduced price) during the afternoon and early evening. This was greatly appreciated especially by parents/grandparents of those with special needs as generally there are not many local events to attend as a family.
The success of the event was only made possible by the organising committee, made up of members of the committees the Sean Duffy Community Centre and Ardnaree Sarsfields GAA with considerable help from Teach an Uisce Sub Aqua Club, Ballina Costume Company, the Neiphin Theatre Group, Ray Forde Sound & Light, Davy’s Tool Hire, An Bolg Buí, the support of Ballina 2023 and all the volunteers that helped out along the way.
To run such a fun and successful event while also helping out such a worthy cause as Pieta House has been a truly rewarding experience for all.
The incredibly positive feedback will inspire all those involved to bring even more creativity and enthusiasm to the Haunted House on the Hill Halloween 2024!
Haunted House on the Hill was supported by the Ballina 2023 Community Events Fund.
