RIVERSONG: A meandering waltz through the streets of Ballina that has its heart in the ebb and flow of the River Moy
The internationally acclaimed spectacle and street theatre company Macnas’ work is renowned for its unique hybrid of professional artists and volunteers collaborating on an event.
This Saturday, July 15, you are all invited to Ballina to immerse yourself in this spectacle, to breathe in this performance, that draws upon local myths, legends and folklore in a feast for the senses.
RIVERSONG, by Macnas, starts at 9.30pm on Mercy Road, and will make its way through the heart of Ballina, to meet the River Moy. The parade will take approximately 1 hour to pass any given point.
Followed by the traditional Ballina Salmon Festival Fireworks Display at St Muredach’s Cathedral to close out the week’s festivities.
PLEASE NOTE: Temporary rolling road closures will be in place and motorists are advised to expect long delays. Cathedral Road will be closed from 6pm on Saturday, July 15.
Spectators are advised to arrive early, and to make their way to the fireworks display via Lower Pearse St.
“The river sings of an unfolding of the past, the present and the future – her voice echoes through the streets, a pulse beckoning you to follow.
She speaks of the ancient stories and holds their memories deep within the waters edges. From the blue of the night, characters, creatures and melodies emerge that tell the tales of the forgotten myths.
She invites you to listen to the stories, dance to the rhythms and bring home with you the magic that is hidden in the river’s song.”
This event is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, and is generously sponsored by Telus International Ireland.
