Oak tree planted for babies born in 2023
As part of Ballina’s recent Climate Action Weekend, an initiative of The Mary Robinson Centre, Ballina Chamber of Commerce and Ballina – Ireland’s Greenest Town, an oak tree was planted in Tom Ruane Park, dedicated to the children born in Ballina in 2023, to mark the town’s 300th anniversary celebrations.
Attending the ceremony were baby Liam and his mum. Liam was the first baby registered, and now, parents and families of children born in this momentous year for Ballina are invited to add their child’s name to the tree’s dedication.
One of Ballina 2023’s objectives was to create a positive legacy for future generations, and this initiative, sponsored by AIB Ballina, rounds out 2023 with an intention to build a healthier, more sustainable town and planet for future generations.
The members of Ballina Community Clean Up, meanwhile, continue their #PlantATreeFor2023 campaign, with almost 8,000 trees planted to date. The aim is to plant a tree for everyone in the town – so 10,556 trees in total.
