River Moy Weekend: Telus International Salmon Run Sprint Triathlon – Sunday, July 9

Sunday, July 9, 2023
Start time: 11am
Ballina’s TELUS International Salmon Run Sprint Triathlon, hosted by Liquid Motion Triathlon Club races back into town on Sunday July 9 at 11am, as part of a special Ballina 2023 celebration of the River Moy, which also includes the River Moy Swim on Saturday, July 8. The Triathlon includes a 750m in the River Moy, a 20km cycle and a 5km run – ideal for first-timers.
This year to celebrate Ballina’s 300th anniversary, both events are hoping to attract 300 participants, making for a lively and memorable weekend of sporting activity in the town to herald the start of Ballina Salmon Festival.
Liquid Motion’s sprint triathlon is one of the most beginner-friendly and scenic triathlons on the national calendar, offering an opportunity to experience the famous River Moy from a whole new perspective – swimming 750 metres downriver in front of the iconic St Muredach’s Cathedral and under both bridges, aided by the tide on its way out to sea and cheered by spectators on both sides.
Participants then jump on their bikes for a flat and fast out-and-back 20km cycle, and finish with a 5km run along the river, ending at the Quay.
The event is renowned for its relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and forgiving route, and this year, for the first time, Liquid Motion is offering special prizes for company relay teams.
